Podiatry & Computerised Gait Analysis in Devon

Podiatry is the assessment and treatment of the feet and lower limbs, podiatrists are qualified to treat people presenting with any foot and ankle problem ranging from the elderly to children. Our podiatrist from the Massage Clinic is a specialist in biomechanics and prescription of foot orthoses (orthotics/insoles/inserts) and therefore will assess and treat biomechanical disorders and muscular-skeletal injuries.

Biomechanics is concerned with preservation, restoration and development of the function of the foot and its associated structure. Biomechanics refers to an understanding of the mechanics in the body. By looking at the way certain joints and muscles function it is possible to determine how the way a person walks or runs may be contributing to their current pain or deformity.

The role of the Podiatrist is to maintain normal mobility and function, by preventing or accommodating dysfunction. Podiatrists provide the basis for the ideal walking style and posture and, when working alongside Chiropractors and Massage Therapists, the total well being and holistic approach to care and management of an individual’s needs is achieved.

Computerised Gait Analysis

Gait analysis is an assessment of how we walk or run, in order to identify biomechanical disorder/mal-function which puts stress on the muscles and joints, eventually leading to pain and injury.

The foot and ankle is the interface between the body and the ground, by using the Footwork Pro AM 3 pressure plate we can produce computerised analysis of both the static and dynamic data from 4096 sensors distributed throughout this technologically advanced plate. This information is processed and reproduced in the form of graphs and images for analysis and explanation to the client by the therapist/practitioner.

The service and advice that we offer is independent and tailored to the individual. The treatment plan may include referral to other therapists or practitioners for specialised treatments or may suggest prescribed orthoses (shoe insoles).
